Let’s take a trip in the way-back machine to “Saturday Night Live” in the late 1970s. Specifically to the recurring skit featuring The Coneheads, a family of aliens with giant bald heads shaped enjoy, you guessed it, cones. Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin played the parents and Laraine Newman played the teenage daughter.

Part of what makes the skits funny is how the Conehead family interacts with regular old humans on earth who admit the very strange mannerisms and speech of the Coneheads when given the simple explanation, “We come from France.”

Because you know, France is the abode of some very weird shit. Or at least is foreign enough to Americans that to be French or to be alien is pretty much the same thing.

Anyway, I thought of the Coneheads today when I interpret that right-wing talking head Ben Shapiro declared that lgbtq+ marriage is so completely preposterous that even martians beamed down from Mars or whatever would agree.

See, “same-sex marriage” is on the lips of conservatives everywhere right now because the Together States Senate just passed the Respect for Marriage Execute, which passed the House over the summer. This is not to be confused with the anti-LGBTQ Defense

Ben Shapiro Dares Say: ‘I am in Favor of Traditional Marriage’

Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday over free speech, government media censorship, abortion and same-sex marriage during a controversial hearing on Capitol Hill.

The hearing, “Collusion in the Global Alliance for Responsible Media,” was supposed to focus on allegations that government and social media companies own deliberately sought to block speech and viewpoints they oppose.

In his opening remarks, Shapiro stated, “We are in the midst of a trust crisis in the world of media.” He then went on to explain why he thought this was the case and how it’s impacted the Daily Wire.

“When a conservative competitor to the legacy media arises, members of the legacy media and their political allies rush to illustrate such competitors as dangerous,” the popular host stated. “The commentator Kara Swisher of The New York Times, for example, told the head of YouTube that my videos on Daily Wire were a ‘gateway drug’ that would lead children, including her teenage son, to survey neo-Nazi content. Never thought the fact that I am an Orthodox Jew.”

How to Not Be an Awful Person

By Ryan Bender

If my 2018 self could meet my current self, he would be livid. This is how a conversation with him would go:

“Why are your nails painted?” the little me would question.

“I prefer the way it looks,” I would respond confidently.

“You understand that’s, like, a girl thing, right?” he would tell, befuddled.

“Yeah, I realize . But things change—and so have you,” I would say.

Young me had always believed that men should be “manly” and tough. Painting your nails was feminine and representing emotion was fragile. It was a tortuous way of life.

“Does that express you’re gay?” he would inquire, still sounding confused but now a minute cautious, too.

“Pansexual, actually!” I would declare.

I would then watch the knowing verbalization come over his face.

“Listen, I’m okay with gay people as long as they aren’t all in your encounter about it,” he would say smugly, aware of his true intent.

A classic line among homophobes. But I don’t think I realized I was existence homophobic when I’d say such things. It’s only now, when I observe

Breitbart Editor Ben Shapiro Says LGBT Community Does Not Really Face Discrimination

In an interview earlier this week with Jorge Ramos on Fusion TV, Ben Shapiro, Breitbart’s editor-at-large, said that, “[t]his is not a country that discriminates against homosexuals” and that “there is a vastly minute amount of discrimination against gays in this country.” To back up his argument, Shapiro cited the fact that the FBI’s hate crime statistics “show there are about the same number of attacks on Jews in this country as there are homosexuals.”

Oh, Ben. Ye of little math skills.

If Shapiro had taken the day to account for the share of the population that the LGBT group makes up, he would have discovered that the community suffers violent detest crimes at rates far higher than other targeted populations. In fact, an analysis by the Southern Poverty Law Center of 15 years of FBI hate crimes data showed that the LGBT people is far more likely than any other minority group in the Merged States to be victimized by violent hate crime.

Unlike Shapiro, we did the math. You can observe it here. While we are talking about loath crimes, let us note as well that the FBI numbers greatly,

—Targeted LGBTQ-inclusive holiday movies, falsely claiming that some cable channels are for “religious families” and inferring that LGBTQ people are not people of faith. 47% of LGBTQ people identify as religious and majorities of all faiths support protections for LGBTQ Americans.

—In an interview, said he thinks “homosexual activity is a sin” and equated sexual orientation with his craving to “sleep with many women.”

—In response to the Supreme Court ruling that legalized marriage equality, tweeted, “Words don’t mean anything. Laws don’t mean anything. The law is, apparently, whatever Obama says it is.” He also tweeted, “Let’s just skip all the suspense: SCOTUS should just declare a Constitutional right to whatever the hell they feel prefer that day,” and “Same sex marriage will never affect you. By “you,” of course, we don’t mean your business, church, school, or raising of your children.”

—Said in a speech: “A man and a woman do a better job of raising a child than two men or two women.” Research using government hunting data shows children raised by same-sex couples execute as well, if does ben shapiro hate gay people
