For 37 years, Mieke Martelhoff (71) was the face of the world-renowned lesbian women's café Vivelavie. A celebrated café where there was always a party. For her efforts, she received a royal honour in 1999. And to crown it all, she is now the ambassador of Pride Amsterdam. She beams with pride. "Last year, I quit. It was time for our neonate to stand on its own two feet."

After the sale of her café, a somewhat less pleasant period began. "It was not a pleasant age but now I own overcome everything," she says. When she was asked to become a Event 2018 ambassador, she shot up. "It means something very special to me." More than 20 years ago, she stood at the cradle of the first Gay Pride. She remembers it like the day before yesterday. "It was so different from now but also so beautiful."

She is a conversationalist who quickly shakes anecdotes out of her sleeve. "One of the highlights was when I sailed along with girlfriends on my boat during the first Canal Parade. We had all dressed up as sailors. It was bitchiness at its finest. However, the boat pride became a reso

Born in Chelmsford, England, Gus moved to the U.S. when he was two years aged and began skiing shortly after in his hometown of Telluride, CO. At 16, Gus was discovered by the international skiing world when he posted a one-minute video of himself on the slopes of Telluride. The video received a lot of attention and sponsors came knocking; his professional career took off.

Axe Leito

In memoriam [17-11-1980 / 18-2-2023]

On 18 February 2023, Axe Leito passed away. The board, staff and volunteers of Pride Amsterdam are deeply shocked. We will miss his generous smile and infectious enthusiasm terribly. We wish Robin, his family and friends and the leather community he was so pleased to be a part of ability to cope with this enormous impairment. In 2020, Axe was appointed Event Ambassador on behalf of the leather community, a position he filled with enthusiasm. Axe had previously been elected Mister Leather Netherlands and even in that position he was soon the figurehead of the leather community. He was a role model and role model for many. As Pride Spokesperson, Axe was not only active in the Netherlands. Born in Curaçao, Axe also involved the Caribbean part of the Kingdom in his activities. There, he gave interviews for television and newspapers and, in addition to his fetish for leather, spoke candidly about issues such as HIV and condom use. Naturally, he had brought a huge amount of condoms to promote safe sex. His time in Defence and his deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq taught him what freedom means.
