Here’s a scenario: You’re the director of a major studio blockbuster that’s poised to create, say, a billion dollars or two, and you yearn to take the opportunity to build a statement. It’s the 22nd film in a monumental big-screen franchise that has somehow never included an openly gay character, so you decide that you’re going to include one. Not a major one, mind you—there’s no time to announce a new superhero this late in the game, and the powers that be won’t permit you do anything interesting with the sexuality of an existing character—but you can at least, in your possess small way, display solidarity with queer fans and build this fictional existence a smidgen more inclusive, and sensible, in the process.

Even though Netflix’s The Electric State decided to strip away the lead character’s queerness, it still decided to add a bit of homoeroticism between the male character Keats and his “male” robot buddy Herman, making me quite confused about the reason behind said changes.

SPOILER WARNING: This post contains spoilers for The Electric State. Proceed with caution!

I wasn’t interested in watching The Electric State at first. The entire sci-fi trope of the human vs. robot war leading to a post-apocalyptic world isn’t really for me. However, when I saw the film debuted to an incredibly low Rotten Tomatoes Score (it currently stands at a 14% Critic Score), especially after having a reported $320 million production budget, I was intrigued. Also, I was up late during the weekend and was appreciate , yeah, might as good see what Anthony Russo and Joe Russo possess done now. Their post-Avengers: Endgame track record is… it’s sure something.

This isn’t a review of The Electric State. But I’ll give you some knowledge. The premise deals with Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) being asked by a robot supposedly housing the consci

Why MCU’s First Openly Gay Moment Is Bullshit Representation

Disney’s at it again. The studio that’s so big and forceful that it owns Pixar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a slew of Fox properties, is claiming it’s breaking earth in gay voice by doing the very least workable. Last time it was Beauty and the Beast’s “exclusively gay moment.” Now, it’s the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it queer character in Avengers: Endgame.

Below are minor spoilers for Avengers: Endgame

Deadline has announced Avengers: Endgame contains “the first openly queer character to come into view in a Disney/Marvel movie.” Which sounds like big news! But the truths is predictably disappointing. For those of you who contain already seen the movie, you may well be scratching your heads, wondering if you missed something for a bathroom break or while the audience was roaring with excitement. More likely you forgot the scene and the character because it’s totally inconsequential.
