Surrey

GOC Surrey had its 1st walk on 29th January 1995 and has walked on the 4th Sunday of each month since.

We usually have over thirty men and women twist up, so you are sure to find someone to share the stunning Surrey views with and plenty of interesting conversation. If you rely on public transport then a brief message posted on the event page normally ensures that you hold a lift from a convenient train station.  Our walks are predominantly circular between 8 – 12 miles long. Lunch is a packed lunch and we always end the walk with a steaming drink and home baked cake brought in by some members (if Mrs Beeton were alive, she could judge the competitive cake makers).

We are a friendly group of people and always welcome recent members. Coming along to your first event can be a daunting prospect but don’t let that stop you as many of us attended on our own and treasure to mix with whoever turns up. GOC has a try before you buy approach where you attend 3 events before you need to combine up to receive event details.

Most importantly of all; the Surrey group is your group and proposals on events you’d appreciate to see or thoughts of how the organization can progress are always welcome.

Welcoming LGBTQI+ people

‘If all were a available member, where would the body be?’

 1 Corinthians 12 v 9

Growing diversity is about better reflecting the communities we serve, recognising that whoever we are, we are all loved, welcomed and valued in God’s house.

According to the UK Government Census in 2021, 3.2% of people who answered the associated census questions on sexuality identified as gay, lesbian, bi, or another sexual orientation.

And gender self is a growing conversation in British society with increasing openness and tolerance.

Yet many of those who identify as LGBTQI+ can tote a burden of pain from the treatment of others, whether that has occurred within their family, their circle of friends, their colleagues, or their Church.

Living in Care for and Faith (LLF)

In order to obtain the care to listen, explore and discuss questions of identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage, the national Church of England has undertaken research through a process called Living in Love and Faith. All the project resources and background can be found on the Church of England website.

The LLF resources are intended to help all of us, whate

Twister

Youth Workers from Surrey County Council move Twister, which is a safe space where little people can meet to get support, make friends, and take part in fun, creative and consciousness raising activities. Twister groups are for young people age 11 to 19 and up to 25 with SEND.

Twister is just like any other youth group. The young people choose how they use their time there, with the main activities including art, crafts, music and cooking. At the commence of the session some young people may select to change into clothes that reflect their gender identity. The friendly touch of the group allows discussions to open up about issues they might be experiencing or worried about, such as bullying, coming out, relationships, civil rights, equality and organism a gay a

Pride in Surrey were in a fortunate position to be qualified to open a bidding process for the first moment this year, after receiving a number of requests from different councils to bring Pride in Surrey to their towns. Charlie Watts, Chief Executive: "After much deliberation, we have decided that Guildford would be a great fit for our 2024 event. Pride in Surrey would enjoy to thank all the councils who reached out to put themselves forward to host our event. I am so thrilled that we will be bringing Pride in Surrey to Guildford this year. It is a truly wonderful town and Stoke Park will make for a beautiful location
