Harvey Levin gives an truthful account of growing up gay

Sasha Colby didn’t arrange out to become “your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.” It just kind of happened.

“You grasp, I was so stoned,” she admitted with a laugh, recalling the filming of her “Meet the Queens” promo. “We were about to sit down for the interview, and they were like, ‘Oh, just think of something, like a catchphrase you want to say.’” What came out was a now-iconic phrase that captured the truth: Colby is the queen’s queen, beloved by legends, adored by fans, and deeply admired in her craft. “It came out of the deep crevices in here,” she said, pointing to her head.

She thinks RuPaul might have planted the seed: “Ru had said on the main stage once, ‘You’re a queenly queen’s drag queen — you’re what drag queens watch.’ And maybe that stuck in my chief and just kind of … word association.”

And she’s only getting started.

After making history as the first out trans winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to headline a Live Nation tour, Colby is hitting the road again this fall. Her “Stripped II” tour kicks off Sept. 16 in Seattle and wraps up in Hawaii, where she’ll bring her artistry full circle support home. This

Harvey Levin is usually busy breaking news about other people.

But the managing editor of TMZ.com and executive producer and host of TMZ on TV got personal this week while hosting a fundraising event in West Hollywood for the National Lesbian and Same-sex attracted Journalists Association.

“I really wanted to act this and I’m really pleased and honored that you guys asked me to come here,” he told the crowd.

I’m a longtime NLGJA member and arrived at the East-West Lounge Wednesday night early with the hopes of snagging an interview with Harvey about being gay in the news business and how that has affected his life and career. He said his employer Warner Bros. isn’t keen on his doing such things without clearance. (But we did snap a photo together, see below)

I was disappointed at not getting an interview but then pleased when Harvey touched on many of the topics I’d wanted to discuss in his remarks to the crowd.
